In the pilot episode Mothers & Daughters Maarten is about to meet the parents of Julia for the very first time, although they've been friends for quite a while. Only a formality, Maarten thinks, but then he doesn't know the relationship between Julia and her mom. From the very beginning the rivalry between mother and daughter flares up and spins more and more out of control. Meanwhile, Maarten meets father Klaas, who has been banished to the attic, because he refused to dress up. When mother Beatrice learns that Maarten has been married before, she puts an end to the relationship.
