La Serva Padrona is a comical opera composed in 1733 by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi to a libretto by Gennaro Antonio Federico after the play of the same name by Jacopo Angello Nelli. Maarten van der Duin translated and adapted the Italian recitatives into drama scenes in English for The Servant Wife, a coproduction of Stephen Ellery and Lukasz Biela, with performances in Cardiff (Wales) and Leytonstone (London). In 18‑th century Naples servant girl Serpina has her eye on Uberto, the master of the house, who doesn't know how to handle her unacceptable behaviour.
