Constance is an adaption of the William Somerset Maugham play The Constant Wife from 1927 about a modern woman who liberates herself from old-fashioned and hypocritical notions about morals and love. In conservative England of the 1920s the marriage between Constance and John meets all expectations: she is beautiful, he is successful and rich, she is true to him and he commits adultery. What's more, with her best friend! Her family and friends are worried and try to warn Constance. Tensions run high, when her former lover arrives from Japan.
